Most people were very excited to hear of a Carrie remake starring Chloe Moretz. I, on the other hand was
slightly torn. I really enjoyed the
original and really was not sure how the remake was going to play out. However, I am a big fan of Chloe Moretz as an
actor, so I really thought she could pull off the role of a tormented teenager.
Chloe Moretz had a lot to live up to. Sissy Spacek, who played the original Carrie
White, was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of the gifted, but
tormented teenager. Chloe Moretz
definitely had the acting chops for the role, plus she has the horror genre
experience.

At just the young age of 16, Chloe Moretz has only been
acting for nine years. Of those nine
years, she has been in eight horror films.
Of those eight films, five of them were remakes of films and a
television series. Her first trip into
the horror genre was a role in the remake of The Amityville Horror. She
went on to have roles in The Eye, Dark
Shadows and Let Me In, all of
which were also remakes.
Chloe Moretz’s first starring role in a horror film came
with Let Me In; a remake of Swedish
film, Let the Right One In. Her wonderful portrayal of teenage vampire,
Abby led to her winning a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor
in 2010 from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. This win puts her in a group with other great
young actors whom had also won this award, such as Dakota Fanning, Haley Joel
Osment, Kristen Dunst and Elijah Wood.
After watching the original Carrie again and watching the remake, I can honestly say that as
good as Sissy Spacek was as Carrie White; I personally think Chloe Moretz was
even better. I would love for Chloe
Moretz to get her just due and also be nominated for an Oscar for her outstanding
portrayal of the gifted yet tormented teenager.

I have personally always been a fan of Chloe Moretz; First seeing her in "Kickass" which I thought was one of her better roles. I have yet to see "Carrie" but am looking forward to seeing it this month. I think shes going to be one of the better female actors in the near future.
ReplyDeleteHey Ron,
ReplyDeleteNice blog post this week! I am glad I got the chance to review it. First, I am surely planning on seeing this film, because just like you, I loved the original and want to see how this remake turned out. I was skeptical how this film would turn out because the original was just so well executed, and the previous television remakes never out-shined the Oscar nominated classic. I expected Julianne Moore to be amazing because she's one of the most riveting and talented actresses of our time, and I assumed the film had high potential to be good because it was directed by the talented Kimberly Peirce. The only concern I really had was Chloe Moretz because of her age and look, which is what many film critics speculated too. I did read some time ago that Ms.Peirce decided to reshoot some scenes right before the theatrical release because she really wanted this film to become something spectacular, so I applaud her for that. But after reading your post, I am really excited to see it now, and I am wondering if Julianne Moore's performance will get her another Oscar Nomination, we'll see. Again, nice post!
Hey Ron,
ReplyDeleteI loved the post. As Luke said, the first time i saw Chloe Moretz, was in the superhero movie Kickass. Then I started to notice her more and more in other films. I do have to say that to this date, her best role is in the movie Kickass, and Kickass 2. At first I was a little torn about it, because I was not sure if she was up to the task. After seeing the Original Carrie, and the TV Version, I have high hopes for this young star. Hope you see this new film and Hope you enjoy it just as much as the original.
